Ehsan Afrasiabian (Fraunhofer ITWM) successfully presented the results of the numerical simulation of frost formation made in the frame of XERIC at the 3rd world congress on Momentum, Heat and Mass Transfer (MHMT’18).

MHMT’18

The 3rd edition of the international annual congress on Momentum, Heat and Mass Transfer took place in Budapest, Hungary, from the 12th to the 14th of April 2018. It provided opportunities to the scientists, researchers, industrial engineers, and university students to present their research achievements. It was a good occasion to develop new collaborations and partnerships with experts in the field. 55 works (out of 94 submitted articles) were presented during the three-day event, which welcomed 64 attendees.

5 main conferences composed the MHMT congress. The 3rd International Conference on Multiphase Flow and Heat Transfer (ICMFHT) included the presentation of XERIC results.

XERIC’s CONTRIBUTION

When a VCC works in heating mode (i.e. as a heat pump), particular attention has to be given to the occurrence of frost formation on the evaporator, which dramatically affects the performance of the cycle. In the XERIC climate control system, this problem is likely to arise on the finned heat exchanger that acts as evaporator in winter conditions. Thus, a numerical investigation of the problem of frost formation on the evaporator has been carried out by Fraunhofer ITWM in collaboration with TICASS and UNIGE to propose a frost prevention strategy.

Ehsan Afrasiabian presented the following paper on April 14, during the 2nd Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) session:
